Even though this felt to be one of the lowest points of Fantasias life she decided not to give up. At times she wanted to give up or just quick she would laugh her way through the tough times (Chappell). She wanted a fresh start so she moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. In the magazine article “Fantasia: Soul Survivor” she quotes “I had left home. I left school. I didn’t have a job and was living with a man in a rundown apartment”. Even though she went through this storm in her life she still never gave up and had hope for better times. She became a statistic to the single motherhood (Fonseca). Because she was so young and dropped out of school Fantasia could not read nor write. She found out about a singing competition and she figured she would give it a try, she had nothing to lose. She was told about the prize if she won and she knew that this could change her and her daughter’s life. In 2007 she went and auditioned for American Idol Season 3 at the age of 19, she became the youngest person to win. She won a big-dollar recording contract and become one of the most recognizable people in the music industry (Chappell). Fantasia knew this meant her and her family didn’t have to struggle anymore. The following season on American Idol. It was at that point she realized she really had young teens looking up to her. Fantasia got her GED and learned to read and write.
