The land application site has been in use since about 1973 for the treatment and disposal of cheese processing effluent. Prior to that time, the site was used for irrigated agriculture. Swiss Village Cheese Company originally operated the facility in 1973. From approximately 1991 until 1999 the facility was operated by Simplot Daily Products. Sorrento Lactalis, Inc. purchased the plant in early 1999 and continues to operate the facility today.

Currently both treated wastewater and freshwater are applied to the hydraulic management units to maintain the crop. Land application occurred primarily on HMU 2 prior to 1990. All wells are constructed with 2-inch PVC well casings. Monitoring Wells (MW) 1 through 4 were drilled in 1990 and Wells 5 through 9 were drilled in 1995.

MW-5 and 6 are located up-gradient of the Lactalis property, on neighboring properties south and east of the reuse site. They are considered up-gradient wells.

MW-3 is located within the reuse site in HMU 3, but on the southern (up-gradient) edge. The well is generally considered an up-gradient monitoring well, although it may be impacted by wastewater reuse in HMU 3 near the well.

MW-2 and 4 are located within the reuse site. MW-4 is located along a delivery ditch within HMU 3 and MW- 2 is located within a field within HMU 2. According to previous reports, the soil and groundwater in the vicinity of MW-2 was likely impacted by legacy whey disposal and wastewater overloading that occurred in the 1980s.

MW-1 and 9 are located west of the Rachel Drain, in the vicinity of a former HMU. MW-1 is adjacent to the location of unlined wastewater ponds from the 1980s and 1990s and next to the IWTP. MW-9 is in the down-gradient corner of the facility, south of the Perkins Drain and north of a stormwater swale for the facility. It is considered a down-gradient
