In the first constitution the purpose of Sorpotimist was to
1. encourage the spirit of service
2. to boost the productivity of members in the inquiry of their activities making them interested in the social, business, and national affairs of the community through an association of women performing different professions
First meetings of clubs took place every week, they had disputes over service projects and hearing announcements on different worldwide problems.
First project of the club was “Save the Redwoods”. They lobbied the law-makers, took on authoritative companies, and won support of people. As the result, big part of the forest was left protected and still exists today.

In times of Second World War British Soroptimist wrote: “Two things are clear to us in the mids of bewilderment of these days. In 1948 Soroptimist International Association was granted Consultative status with UNESCO.
In 1950 Soroptimist International awarded category C Consultative status with ECOSOC.

For first Quadrennial project in the Maldives, was provided 14 boats to carry health workers, medical drugs, supplies and equipment to the people in the isolated Maldives islands in the Indian Ocean. Over 20 paramedics were also trained.
In 1982 First President’s December 10th Appeal: Catherine Salt chose a project on the island of Pulau Bidong, Malaysia, to help refugee women and children.
Pulau Bidong was the first asylum center to run with UNHCR and provided for housing, care, and supplement including medical and social services for refugee who were waiting for resettlement.
