When you think of Ashton Kutcher you think of comedy. When you think of Rosa Parks you think of Civil Rights. When you think of Michael Jordan you think of basketball. When you think of John Paul II you think of religion. Did you know that all of these people were involved in Greek life? I just made you a little more interested in Sororities did I not? Several tactics, including recruiting, crushing misconceptions, giving fascinating facts, and sharing personal stories, are used by Greek organizations alike in an attempt to intrigue potential new members.

Another thing to remember is the first semester of a sister’s membership is always the most expensive! It only gets cheaper from here on out. Do not forget the money you pay is going to a good cause. The money collected by the sorority goes towards its philanthropy, sisterhood retreats and events, formals and date parties, living accommodations, and countless other facets sorority life …show more content…
Hazing used to be a problem in Greek life. I want to emphasize the word “used.” Hazing used to be an incredibly large problem nation-wide in sororities; However, hazing is no longer an issue in most sorority chapters. Of course I cannot say it never happens because that would be an extremely far stretch of the truth, but I can say that the University of Kentucky has a strict “no hazing” policy currently in effect (University). In no way, shape, or form is hazing permitted on the university’s campus. It is strictly prohibited and is enforced to a great extent. I have never witnessed hazing, nor do I plan to witness any hazing while at my time at the University of

Among many sororities there are explicit or implied pressures to make friends with “top” houses and make them like you. This may cause some sorority members to not speak up when they have been violated. Changing this would primarily involve modifying the role of a house mother or establish some other kind of regulator. Instead of a full-time house mother at sororities, each sorority or fraternity would have someone who is there two to three days a week checking in on…

“It’s not what it looks like”, this is what the majority of members of a sorority or fraternity would respond after being asked about Greek life. Why is that they feel like they have to say that? One word: Marketing. The way sororities and fraternities are portrayed to the public gives off a bad image and reputation about the members and their community. Any person who has not been part of Greek life and does not have any information about this community and its activities they would think sororities and fraternities are just a big house full of college people just having fun, drinking, and sleeping around.…

This type of behavior is extremely common in the state of Alabama where southern roots remain strong in communities. This influence reaches even into the social structure of the south’s biggest universities. Although the racism continues to be present in the University of Alabama Greek system, forced integration would only cause harm to the intricate process and all parties involved. Fraternity and Sorority organizations are private with their own bylaws and traditions. There is no reason for these organizations to be regulated by any university.…

Growing up, I definitely had a warped view on Greek Life. I presumed being in a sorority would be how the media portrayed it – crazy, dramatic, and dangerous. However, coming to Babson, I saw a different story. I observed a community of strong women supporting each other through encouragement and shared purposes. Every sorority woman I met my first semester of freshman year raved about their experiences and passion for their sisterhood.…

Whether it being, giving student’s connections, philanthropy, or providing a fun atmosphere for several stressed college students. The affect it has on the students individually is huge too. After research on the Internet, you will find articles about several sororities raising money for the “Make-A-Wish” foundation, or simply helping out in the community. Without much knowledge on the subject, and by simply relying on predictable nightly news, you may only see the story of a sorority getting kicked off campus because of a racial caption on a picture that went viral.
