Sophomore Year I Study Chemistry

The periodic table and I will never get along. Sophomore year I decided to take Chemistry and I felt positive that I would love it since its science and it had a little of math involved. However, I began to realize that chemistry was not for me when second quarter came along. In the beginning of the year I thought that the class was going to be pretty easy and that I would love it, but my thoughts changed on me.
In chemistry class the students were very smart and they all had high level classes compared to mine, so it made me feel out of place and stupid. I would see how the students would interact to the lesson that were being taught and many would finish worksheets under minutes while I would be in the first problems struggling to answer them. I would ask my partners for help, but I wouldn't fully understand when they would explain to me. In class we had many group work and it was slightly hard for me to participate in them mainly because the material that we were being taught wasn’t so clear to me. I would feel embarrassed and useless due to the fear that I would say something wrong and I wouldn’t help much. Whenever we would have a quiz or test I would try my hardest to pass and get a decent grade, I would always look over my notes to study and memorize the steps to solving the problems, but somehow every time the test was handed out

This goes for both a lower-level student and upper-level student at any level of education. The lower-level, remedial or beginner, students may see themselves as not smart enough to be in an upper-level class. They may also think that they are incapable of exceling within their education because they are not “good enough” to be in an advanced class. Say, for example, a freshman college student is taking College Prep Math while a friend is taking College Algebra. The student in College Prep Math may not feel competent enough to be at the same level as the student in College Algebra.…

However, as I headed into grade 12, things began to change. I had never experienced any kind of uneasy feelings in class or any kind of alienation from other students. When I first got a taste of an unwelcome vibe was in a class called Indigenous Studies 30. I had been in Indigenous Studies before because it was a very hands on and visual class, which how I learned best. However, the first day of this class felt different from past years.…

AP Chemistry has made me realize that you need to work hard for the things you want. AP Chemistry is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. It was full of hard concepts and ideas that I could not seem to understand. Most times, I stayed up studying for tests until three in the morning. My teacher had tests that were based on past AP exams and in order to reach the highest score, a five, you usually needed to get a minimum percentage of seventy percent.…

I agree the most important thing Jeannine did was seek help. It can be very difficult to take on everything alone. School provides so many resources for help, its important that you take full advantage. Ignore the issue will only lead to a decline of success or failure. I think the issue is that people are afraid to ask for help because they don’t want to seem unintelligent as you touched on.…

'A Journey into the Inevitable' Shanti Swaroop Kandala Over the years I have always been asked that one question which probably everyone coming out of their family's highly established occupation would have been asked- "why haven't you taken up law?" As Sherman Alexie in his essay "The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me" narrates that he learned to read with a superman comic book, I realized that I was interested in space when I was amused by flying objects. As a child, I was fortunate to find my interests at a tender age of about seven years and haven't given up since then to pursue my interests as that with Alexie's. This essay tries to explore my life from childhood to present day and gives an impression as to how the childhood…

I didn’t not know what I was expecting. On the first day of high school, I stepped into a crowd of students, waiting to enter the building that would become my second home for the next four years. I didn’ not know where I would stand among these highly accomplished individuals, or if I would even amount to the standards set before me. Self-doubt began to fester inside of me as soon as I stepped through the front doors. I expected less and less of myself as time went on.…

Education and Me Education, a thing we fought to have is now discouraging students to learn. All this starts once we start school.
