My focus, during the interview that I conducted with a police sergeant at a local police department, was on a program within a school district that is aimed at anonymity and rewards to help with problem solving, but it is also providing a community service and helping in deterring crime. The program is a crime stoppers program where people are able to call in and give anonymous tips, if an arrest or seizure is made, then these people are able to collect a reward for their tip. Overall, it is a great program, great enough for the city police and the school district police to each have one that is independent from one another, yet work together hand in hand. After hearing what my interviewee had to say about the program, I would have to say that…

This school year I have become completely taken with psychology and its insightful explanations of various mental disorders. As a sophomore in high school, I was diagnosed with severe obsessive compulsive disorder, and had an extremely negative effect on my personal and academic lives. Sophomore and junior year are the most difficult years of my life to date, mainly because it seemed as if every medication and cognitive behavioral therapist was wrong for me. I tried various medications, various doctors, and finally convinced myself there was no hope during the first semester of junior year. According to Indira Gandhi, the first woman to be elected Prime Minister in India, “Education is a liberating force, and in our age it is also a democratizing force, cutting across the barriers of caste and class, smoothing out inequalities imposed by birth and other circumstances.” As a person whose life has spanned across Kuwait, India, Chicago, and now Colorado, I have personally experienced how education has improved the lives of individuals and communities. Conversely, I have observed how the lack of education and access for it have blocked the advancement opportunities of individuals, families, and communities. I was born and raised in Kuwait and completed my elementary and middle school education there. Unfortunately, Kuwaiti government…
