Extracurricular activities help students develop various interests that allow a student to be more active outside of the classroom. Extracurricular activities can also help students apply classroom knowledge to real world situations. I’ve participated in many extracurricular activities that pertained to my interest in medicine, and because of this, I’m able to use my knowledge of science classes to hopefully pursue a career in the medical field. Since my lifetime goal is to change the world through medicine, my courses and extracurricular activities have helped me prepare for my chosen field of study. My courses I’ve taken and extracurricular activities I’ve participated in include AP Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, and the purposeful walks sponsored by HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America).…
My choice to have biochemistry as my major was the most logical, because for all of my life I have been interested in what life is composed of. I looked at the incredible things that people and animals do and I found that all the intricate working of biology and chemistry that made all of their actions possible, only added to the awesomeness of it all. Another important factor in my life that started my interest into the science of biology was my mother, who has a genetic anemia called Fanconi Anemia. She has lived with this genetic disease for all of her life and it has had a toll on her quality of life. From my earliest memories she has struggled with blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies.…
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to attend North Dakota State University. My dad and sister are NDSU alumni, so furthering my education where they did provides us with a unique bond. Additionally, not many of my relatives attended college, allowing me to see the difficulties in providing for oneself and family without a college degree. Although I know the next seven years are going to be challenging, extremely strenuous, and will push me to the edge of my comfort zone, the satisfaction of administering medical services to those who need them will make it worthwhile. Not only will I be able to care for others with a Pharm.…
Science for Health Profession is a major that relates to my career. I have been seriously thinking about my future occupation for 2 years since I was in high school. I have…
My love for science and math didn’t spur from natural talent, but rather from curiosity when I was young. In elementary school my best friend was one of the smartest kids in the school. I, however, was the more creative one and was always in my head. I was almost always lost in my imagination. But my best friend was the exact opposite, he was down to earth and a much more logical person.…
So, come high school I focused in on sciences and when it was time to pick a college and a major, I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to be a veterinarian. College excited a love of learning I didn’t know could exist.…
Personal Goals I aspire to attend a university and pursue a higher level of education. My parents did not attend college or even finish high school. I want to be the first in my family to pursue a college degree. I started my journey on the first day of high school. I recognized that I had put my academics before anything in order to have a promising future.…
Hi, everyone!! I’ve lived in South Florida for almost four years now. I’m originally from Michigan where I graduated with my BS with my focus being pre-med; which my degree is in biology and chemistry. Originally, I was going to go to EMU (Eastern Michigan University) for a Masters in Nutrition focusing in nutritional research.…
I want to become a physician-scientist because I want to work at the interface between basic science research, which has the power to elucidate new knowledge, and clinical medicine, which has the ability to translate scientific discoveries to a deliverable form that can directly help the patients in need. For three years, I studied the role of tumor microenvironment on breast cancer metastasis in Dr. Semenza’s laboratory at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. As I studied the role of Hypoxia-inducible factor on integrin expression and subsequent cell motility, I learnt that cancer is a multi-faceted disease that consists of a web of multiple biological mechanisms as well as other arenas of science. Having exposed myself to…
I also hope to use my knowledge in biology to help me with my career to as work to become a doctor. I also selected biology as my STEM major because I enjoyed talking about genetics,…
I plan to pursue my love of Biology by attaining a degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. I hope to further my knowledge in the clusters The Amazing Red Blood Cell, and Living Oceans in Climate Change at UCSD. While the former appeals to my determination to discover innovative ways to remedy human ailments, the latter appeals to my desire to address the pressing issue of climate change. My interest in biology began in freshman year.…
It has been 11 years, but that picture of a heart drawn by my biology teacher when I was in 8th class is still crystal clear in my mind. As the teacher explained about heart 's function, I was so astonished to see how splendidly our body worked, and it drove me to explore more and more about it and motivated me to choose biology as my subject in high school. In the first year of medical school that interest of exploring the human body forced me to study anatomy inside out, but till now it has been just that curiosity to know the human body. Then with the start of rotations at hospital I started to gain interest in patient care and started correlating all knowledge I gained with the disease process. As I tried to understand the spectrum of normal,…
When I was in seventh grade I had a biology teacher, Mrs. Greenfelder, that changed my life. My experiences, through her leadership, instilled a love of science. Her passion and knowledge of the subjects was inspiring. She lived the science and made it relative to my everyday life. Soon after, I was driven to a pursue a career in the biology field.…
Personal Statement I am writing this Personal Statement in support of my application to study for a Master’s degree in Biochemistry at the California State University Sacramento. My interest in Biochemistry has always been a real world interest, and my desire to study Biochemistry at the Master’s level is likewise fueled by the imperativeness of the subject and the crucial role it plays in our everyday lives. The part I want to play as a Biochemist – in bringing to the world's attention the implications of current health practices, various diseases, and living processes – is in my point of view, the essence of biochemical studies. Society has continued solving challenges, seemingly insurmountable and perhaps more pressing than we have ever faced – I strive to be at the forefront of the “solution-finding” as a research scientist.…
Living as in breathing? Walking while simultaneously talking and saying words that make sense? Possessing the ability to function? Like a normal human? I hope so.…
