Sophomore And Junior Years Psychology

Inside Out A movie “inside out” by pete docter is about how five emotions grapple the control of an 11 year old girl. I realised after watching the movie it's much more than a kids movie. It demonstrates how our mines worked by different types of emotions in this movie, the girl mind was controlled by anger, disgust, fear, sadness and joy. This emotions and many more show how we act and what we show. It shows us that we tend to deal with our emotions that we have experienced by avoiding the bad feelings and the bad problems.…

A few years ago I was diagnosed with major depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The depression did it 's awful job by making me unmotivated to socialize with others, finish my schoolwork, and also pushing me towards suicide, but thankfully my family found out what was going on and helped me get better by taking me to a therapist, but the OCD on the other hand was a whole different beast. Previously I didn’t know that OCD could affect people in different ways, I had thought like a lot of people that it just caused people to repeat actions over and over again but my form makes me think unwanted or “intrusive” thoughts.…

With ADHD and Depression being two of the most common mental illnesses in high school teens today, there seems to be a gray area in the subject matter, especially amongst my peers. Imagine being in 6th grade, and having someone come to talk to your entire sixth grade student body about middle school sports. During a question and answer session I asked if it was possible to run cross country and play basketball, and in a loud voice that went across the gym, a kid said “Why ask you’re too fat to play sports” and the whole gym burst into laughter. This is how my introduction to middle school officially began. As one could imagine the pain and humiliation that went along with my torture, but because I suffer from generalized anxiety disorder my problems were exemplified. I spent the next few weeks listening to everyone talk about me, repeat the story and laugh.…

Being fifteen years old in a college has not been easy. There are many obstacles I have to overcome to further my education. For the past few years, I had severe social anxiety. My anxiety often got in the way of my education and learning; during school, I would have at least one panic attack a day and would have to step out of class for long periods of time to calm down. My anxiety was worse on the days I had presentations; my presentation grades often suffered because I was too anxious to speak clearly in front of large groups.…

Psychological disorders and mental health issues in today’s society affect many people in a variety of ways. Many people in society are often stigmatized and labeled because of a psychological disorder shunning them from society, the work place, schools, friends, and more. However, recently through my research I see how many people are working their jobs, handling their careers, never stop working and aspiring with their goals, and face varied challenges at home, work, and out socially using a variety of therapies from medications, to psychologist visits, and even psychotherapy. There are over four hundred types of psychological disorders.…

“Come on, get out of the car. It's not a big deal. You need to get to school,” Those were words that I commonly heard the second half of my freshman year of high school. Of course most high school age kids don’t want to go to school, but it's for trivial reasons like the fact the work is boring. I didn’t want to go to school for a much more complicated reason; anxiety rushed through my body any time I even thought about getting close to the school building.…

Helping Students Succeed The number of people who are afflicted with mental illnesses like depression and anxiety is rising with suicide as a leading cause of death among college students. It is understood that the amount of “students seeking counseling for "’severe’" psychological problems jumped from 16 percent in 2000 to 39 percent in 2012”(Baker), which shows how quickly the rate of mental illness is increasing. Many students who suffer from these disorders feel that they don’t have a good support system built to help them deal with their problems. Over 1000 college students commit suicide every year, which is why this issue needs to be taken more seriously.…
