Sookan changes in many ways throughout the book Year of Impossible Goodbyes when faced with the following situations.
Sookan helps mother and aunt tiger in the sock factory. “I had to help mother and aunt tiger in the sock factory.”(choi 9,10) Sookan currently helps mother and aunt tiger as a part of her daily routine, she is dependant on the people in her life. If she didn’t have them she would be lost.
Inchun and Sookan were separated from their Mother. They currently don’t know where she is. They fearfully have to keep moving. “I cried too. I didn't know what to think or say anymore, but we have to keep going.” (134) She depended on her mother, so it felt like a bullet to the chest when she was separated from her. It is a struggle for
