While brilliantly written and beautifully executed, Sons of Anarchy portrays an excessive amount of several different types of violence that can cause viewers to become desensitized towards the topic, as well as normalizing dysfunctional family dynamics. While entertaining to watch, Sons of Anarchy portrays an extravagant amount of violence which can lead some viewers to begin to romanticize the subject. In the first season, Tara Knowles, Jax’s ex-girlfriend (later wife), was being stalked and harassed by her obsessed ex- boyfriend, Josh Kohn. In season 1 episode 8 “The Pull,” Kohn had broken into Tara’s home to attack her; as a result, Tara called Jax, who came to Tara’s rescue and kills Kohn claiming it is the only way to keep him away from Tara because if they called for help “he would be arrested then be released right after and he would be free to come back and screw with you all over again.” Jax and Tara then proceeded to have sex next to the dead body.
