From story Sonny’s blue, narrator failed to decide of a happy life, while sonny’s pursuit of happiness lead him to suffer more. They both grew up with their parents in Harlem, a place filled with agony and suffering. Discriminated by the white dominated society, their parents continued to live here, even knowing “no place safe for kids, nor nobody” (257). But the street of Harlem can be better described as hell, little boys used to steal and younger peoples were mostly becoming addicted to drugs. Anyone who “came down into the streets for light and air, found themselves encircled by disaster” (256).
