Sonic Parent Monologue

r Mr. Alleyne,
Recently I have read your latest article on the sonic teenager deterrent (mosquito) and I am furious on your opinions towards the youth. The negativity in this article is overbearing. Although the mosquito may move these, “gangsters” away but the way you portray your thoughts imply teenagers are all behaving badly which is unacceptable as there is more INNOCENT teenagers in the world who still get affected by the, “mosquito alarm.”
This article is highly biased towards the youth of the world. By only taking the side of the older civilian’s people who are affected by the “loitering.” This shows no argument from a teenager’s point of view which is ageist but also you are not allowing teenagers to have their own say. Imagine

There has been cases that the mosquito has affected people who is not in the age range. For example a recent case has come out that a young child was walking to the shop with her parent, again innocent people, and then the young child after coming home from the shops had a severe ear ache. Furthermore there was another recent case that a family with two children lived next to a shop and every time the mosquito system was activated their children would grasp their ears in pain. This suggests that the mosquito is affecting people who are not even the target. Mothers won’t be able to go anywhere with their children because of the torturing device. This means that is the government have agreed to put this system in place they are suggesting that they don’t care about children’s health. This horrific system put in place may move the adolescents but is it reasonable for other public people. This article only focusses on the mosquito alarm where there are plenty more devices that can be put in place and can cause no harm physically, for example the music of old people. This system if very affective and it moves teenagers away by filling their ears with classical songs which they are not a fan …show more content…
The vocabulary used is highly inappropriate. As a result of this you can see the stereotypical views and that you stereotype all teens into one group. The way you say –“the revenge is almost too sweet” suggests that you have negative view on all adolescents. It implies that you want to punish all teenagers for their age. The quote above is also full of negativity as the word “revenge” has connections of payback and is adolescents hanging around a shop corner such a immense problem that you all need “revenge” because personally I think you are over exaggerating; have you asked why they are hanging round shop door or hanging around McDonalds? What is they have no other place to go because of the same problem or maybe there is not enough facilities around the area they live in. at the beginning on this article the title says “plagued by teenagers”. This is suggesting that you are referring the youth of the world to a disease so terrible it is hard to get rid of them which is very

Crime rates increase as people approach the age of eighteen and after this age, the rates decrease again. Illustrated "in the form of a graph, the result-the so-called age-crime curve-looks like the Matterhorn" (Kolbert 6). "The Terrible Teens" by Elizabeth Kolbert argues that there is a neurological reasoning behind teens’ reckless behaviour, but no definite solutions to combat them. She uses methods of development and rhetorical devices, such as appealing to authority, figurative language, example/illustration, diction, and allusion. She reinforces her inferred thesis effectively using these methods.…

In this particular episode of the podcast, 99% Invisible, Roman Mars explores unpleasant design, and how architecture and technology have contributed greatly to the depersonalization and sterilization of public spaces. One of the original methods of deterrence through design is sound, more aptly put, sound that is unpleasant or assaulting to the ears. The best example of this is something I myself heard about but never experienced (thankfully) throughout my adolescence. In an attempt to combat teenage loitering, numerous businesses and storefronts throughout the U.K have placed a sound box outside, known as 'The Mosquito'. This device emits a shrill and ear-piercing noise, only audible by teenagers and young adults.…

Final Essay “Democrats’ War on Youth” by W. James Antle III The Washington Examiner article about the War on Youth is an effective argument, but does seem to jump to conclusions making it feel as though today’s generation is doomed. The metaphor of “war” is heavily used in politics, as it isn’t a literal war, but has a similar devastating outcome. The author compares it to the war on women, something many people have head of. It begins talking about young people struggling in today’s current economy, how policies persuade them without revealing the heavy fiscal burden on the youth.…

Some parents and professionals characterized the younger generation's online reading habits as more time browsing, non-linear reading, and reading more selectively, while less time is spent on in-depth reading. In "Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter and Nicer", Annie Murphy Paul, a magazine journalist, argues that people who read literature are more likely to be empathetic and understanding other people's perspective. She claims that the younger generation is being cheated by their digital devices from those elements of empathizing and understanding other people's viewpoints. I disagree with Ms. Paul on the issue because of the lack of understanding within the age group of teens and children characteristics and the lack of a broader spectrum of other ages people to compare data to her claim.…

Young people have continually been a huge subject in our society. People often define youth as just a period between childhood and adult age, but youth is not simply that. There can be a variety of different ways in which we can identify youth and its true meaning in relation to different aspects and influences in our surroundings. Youth can be argued as a social construct rather than a universal concept because everyone has different experiences in their lives and not everyone experiences youth. It is important to understand every aspect that contributes to what youth is, because there is so much more to youth than a group of people or an age.…
