Sonia Sotomayor has been serving since August 2009. Barack Obama nominated Sonia to the Supreme Court, after David Souter retired from office. Her nomination was confirmed when they voted 68-31. Before this she had been nominated up by quite a few Presidents. When she came part of the Supreme Court it was known as a big movement for the Latinos, women, and the lower minorities.

While she was the third woman that had become part of the Supreme Court, she still had the first that was Latino. She is also one of the youngest in the Supreme court Justice.
