Songwriters: The Importance Of Listening To Music

Music. It’s just a five letter word that may only mean to people, the sounds that come out of the radio or what they have downloaded into their iPods or even the background to an amazing new dance craze, but it means so much more than that to me. Songwriters in my opinion take the time to pull out that pen and paper to write down what they know, experienced, and felt to make into a melody so that others can relate to what they have and know that there is someone out there just like them. When you hear a song what you hear is the instrument and the lyrical components that make up that song and each part is crucial to understanding what an artist is trying to tell as your listeners. Such as when I hear a song that gives me chills I wonder how it is the creator did come up with this wonderful composition and find my head following the rhythm of the beat. My friends and family, however were the ones who taught me many different kinds of music in different languages and different cultures and learning this helped me to understand that the composers of these songs are basically writing their own literacy narratives such as rap and r and b. They are an artist trying their best by putting their voices in the music to help inspire others. Through these songs I have learned that all varieties of music can help you through many events in your life. It can help you tell your friend you will be there for them with “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers, it can instill in you, the hope of believing in something with “I believe i can fly” by R Kelly, it can help you get over a breakup with any Drake’s songs, or it can teach you the latest dance move with “Teach Me How to Dougie” by the Cali Swag
