At the beginning of the story as Father Benito was waiting for the door to be opened, the lady referred to Huitzitzilin in a negative manner. She explained to Father Benito that Huitzitzilin had asked to be confessed and spoke negatively about her, “These people are not like us Father. They have no spirit!” (Limon 11) Father Benito asked her to not speak of her like that. The woman judged her wrongly, because she wasn’t a Spaniard the way she was and because she had different beliefs. Towards the end of the book, as Father Benito is told about Huitzitzilin’s death, he has a nostalgic feeling because he realizes that he misjudged her at the beginning and realized what a strong lady she was after everything. I know that this lesson serves my life because nothing different is happening today.
