It initially presented itself in Sicily in in 1349, and traveled its way west to central Asia. Very quickly, the fatal disease had spread all over Western Europe and Northern Africa. Within two more years, it reached its way to Syria and Spain. As a result, it killed over one-half of the populations in the towns and cities. Everyone at the time had absolutely no clue on where and how this disease is killing so many people. Needless to say, it was a very chaos situation. Because most civilizations lacked any immunity or medicine for the disease, high death rates were inevitable. The highest morality rates were among the young and old. The people who lived in dense and crowded cities were the main people affected and who died.
