Song Analysis: Vultures Like Lovers

With Kevin away at school, it was really hard for me emotionally; I always felt so alone and unhappy… I missed Kevin. The last song of my suite represents our love being rekindled after 4 years of being apart. The first song that I have chosen to begin my suite is, “Vultures Like Lovers” by Wild Nothing. This song represents the beginning of my relationship with Kevin. The time when we were best friends but started to catch feelings for each other. At this time, life was so easygoing and carefree. We just went with the flow and had fun. The light, upbeat, and fun sound of “Vultures Like Lovers,” reminds me of all of the reckless nights that we had: sneaking into his car for joyrides, skateboarding around town, running into buildings late at night and climbing on to the rooftops just to see the twinkling lights around us. At 14 years old, this was the first time that I’ve ever felt this way about someone. The butterflies that scurried around in my stomach whenever we hung out, my blood pumping, my heart pounding in my chest. In “Vultures Like Lovers,” the first 30 seconds of the song has the sound of a guitar fluctuating from a higher pitch to a lower pitch. This reminds me of the butterflies that I would get in my stomach fluttering up and down. The sound of the drums at 1:10 was the sound of my heartbeat, whenever we were together. Throughout the song, the coalescence of the guitars and drums sounds like a weird and confused sound that shouldn’t go together, but they actually sound beautiful. This is much related to …show more content…
This is the stage when we realized that this is it- we are actually in love and there is no avoiding it. To portray this, I selected the song, “Cosmic Love,” by Florence and the Machine. From 15 seconds into the song, it already has a very whimsical and illuminating feel to it, due to the use of the harps. It feels incredibly hypnotizing, much like how I felt hypnotized by

Everyone has or had troubles trying to find themselves in life. Making a name for yourself and becoming a good soul is one of the hardest things to do. There’s pressure, anxiety, and way too much judgement. My favorite band, The Goo Goo Dolls, put so much feeling and meaning in their songs. They sing Iris, my favorite song, which talks about being true to yourself and not taking life for granted.…

They all live happily ever after. It’s a trope so familiar, it provokes audience responses ranging from grudging acceptance to outright hatred. However, like all tropes, the “soulmate song” can be effective when used properly, and truly move the audience to believe in the couple. In order to analyze what constitutes “proper” usage of the soulmate song, I will examine three different scenarios that a musical couple can encounter in the course of a film. The first category is the couple that, despite the conventions of the genre, does not ever actually sing together.…

The Melting Pot I choose the “Arabian Waltz” by the Silk Road Ensemble as my song. This group is composed of “distinguished musicians, composers and performing artists from more than 20 countries around the world to celebrate, explore and experiment with a wide variety of cultural approaches to musical performances” (The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma: Live from Tanglewood). At the beginning of the piece I felt very serene with just a couple of instruments playing. However, when all the instruments joined in. the piece became more exciting.…

Through many examples of music from many different backgrounds, I have come to realize and appreciate the diversity present in the world of music. When I was asked to select one piece of music to analyze, I was faced with a difficult decision. It was challenging for me to decide on one piece of music that I could analyze given the abundance of music. After many countless hours of searching for one piece of music that I could focus my time on to analyze, I selected a piece named October by Eric Whitacre. Eric Whitacre is a Grammy-winning American composer and conductor.…

I selected the song, “Friends” by Raury for the scene when Johnny, Ponyboy, and Two-Bit meet Sheri and Marcia at the drive-in. The title of this song relates to this scene because, Johnny, Ponyboy and Two-Bit almost instantly become friends with Sheri and Marcia, when they first officially meet at the drive-in. In this song, a few lyrics closely relate to the connection between the Socs and Greaser friends. “At peace, at peace, we are, forever,” relates to how when Sheri tells Ponyboy she wishes they could openly be friends, because they are unable to at that time due to Socs and Greaser rivalry. Another lyric goes “I have some friends who are the future, they need this world much more than I” relates to how the Greasers sometimes feel about…

I think the song “F**K Tha Police” by N.W.A has a lot of similarity with the reading. In the song, it talks about the mistreatment of African Americans because of their skin color. N.W.A talks about how many African Americans are sent to jail because the police abuse their power. In the book “The New Jim Crow” talks about that a number of poor African Americans are send to jail because they are targeted by the police.…

For the first activity, I attended the play “The Last Five Years”, held Friday October 7, 2016 in the Harold and Jean Lambert Recital Hall. As stated in the playbill, The Last Five Years is “a show about a relationship, about a marriage…it’s told from two angles. From the man’s point of view, it starts at the first meeting and ends in the present…from the woman’s point of view, it starts in the present and works back to the first meeting.” (citation). The cast was made up of college students Caroline Stuart (Cathy), who produced the play as a part of her senior study, and Austin Loo (Jamie).…

PART FOUR: Creative Process 381_CP_SONG 1: Can’t Stop I started with the guitar and formed a riff based in the key of Em. I transposed this riff onto a sparkly synth sound and could hear a strong bass line that would accompany it. I had three successful ways of approaching the creation of Can’t Stop. Firstly, completing a section and moving to the next before adding production elements.…

Introduction Domestic violence is everywhere around us and for some of us it is not something new. It comes in many forms physical, emotional, and psychological. The abuse is very real and when it starts we are the last to notice it. Nothing is worse then being the person on the outside looking in watching mothers, sisters, and friends go through it without being able to do anything is hard.…

The scene that I have composed a song to appears in ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’. The scene takes place after (SPOILER ALERT!) Severus Snape is killed and Harry collects some of his memories into a vial. Harry then pours Snape’s memories into a pensieve to re-watch them. Snape’s memories take us back to his childhood and when he first meets Harry’s mother, Lily.…

Sexual abuse has never been a pressing issue in the world. It happens so often that is is considered normal and is described in songs. I found the song and music video of one such song, “Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem and Rihanna, sickening, and could barely get through reading the vulgar lyrics and the story they were telling. I felt uncomfortable that these repeating problems were being addressed in such a casual way as the song explained. An article about sexual abuse on women says: “We have a problem.…

During the late 90s, Aerosmith was asked to produce a touching piece for the soundtrack of the movie Armageddon, which starred singer Steven Tyler’s daughter (The Rob). With the help of schmaltz “queen” Dianne Warren (author of other sappy songs like “How Do I Live” and “Because You Loved Me”), the band was able to perform a piece that was full of gusto and romance, wrapped up by their music video in a melodramatic bow (Farber). “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” is a song that Carl Wilson would most certainly find chockfull of “saturated, demonstrative sentiment” (Wilson 54-55). Its high levels of emotional intensity and excessive passion ooze out of the song’s every detail, making even the band’s physical actions reek of schmaltz.…

Whether choosing the Imagine Dragon, I Prevail, or Taylor Swift version of “Blank Space,” the lyrics are designed to make you fall for the singer. Through the different interpretations the artists have done, the tone of the message changes. Between Imagine Dragon’s finger-snapping rhythm, I Prevail’s punk rock, screamo dynamic and Taylor Swift’s original ominous pop tune, there are many renditions that have been and are left to be done. In the end state though, the song is still about heartbreak, attitude, mischief, and…

Grammy award winning R&B artist, Adele, conquered the billboards with the number one album ‘21’, selling over million copies. Her most popular song on the album is “Someone like you”, which tells the story of her previous lover. Though she wants nothing but the best for her ex, she prays he remembers the good in the relationship. This soulful song lures in people with situations similar to hers, such as; having to move on from a break up when your heart doesn’t want to and staying strong in knowing it was a reason the relationship ended in the first place, so don’t look back. The poet, Adele, uses various elements of poetry to create a theme of love.…
