Most writers, consciously or unconsciously, find a way to incorporate other aspects of their lives into their works. This occurs in other forms of art including paintings and music of all genres. When this happens, the reader may find it difficult to make sense of some aspects of the work if there is a lack of background knowledge of the owner of said work. An example of a piece of literary work that requires some background information is a song titled “Fireworks” by Aubrey Drake Graham popularly known as Drake. The song is the first track in the artist’s album - Thank Me Later. However, the artist does not clearly state who he was involved with in the song. This is an example of a situation where the reader should have some prior biographical knowledge in order to understand the artist’s emotions. The main essence of this verse in the song was to clear up rumors that came up about the relationship. Later on in the verse, Drake says “There was smoke in the air before that was me clearing it.” In the spirit of talking about the relationship, the artist shows the reader that he felt differently about certain things unlike his partner. Although he thought it could have been a serious relationship, which is observed when he says “I can tell it wasn’t love...What an experience, you could’ve been the one”, another quote - “...I kept my wits about me luckily” shows that he is thankful for not falling for her completely.
