In Something Rotten the musical, the song “We See The Light”, starts to a female character named Portia who has fallen in love with Nigel, they aren’t allowed to be together but sneak out to see each other anyways. Portia states, “I'm tired of listening to the same sad story, how lovers fail because it's written in the stars. The feuding family plot is starting to bore me. I'm thinking we can show 'em that's not who we are.” (Wanye). Portia compares their relationship to that of Romeo and Juliet, already seeing how Romeo and Juliet’s rebellion plays out, one can infer this relationship is also teaching moral lesson of consequences, yet as well as that this rebellion also shows the impracticality of keeping lovers apart because of a family problem. This is shown in “View Theatre” when they state, “ Nigel and Portia’s secret relationship is somewhat modeled after the original young lovers (Romeo and Juliet), with Nick and the Puritans indicating the warring families of the Montagues and the Capulets,” this quote confirms suspicions of their relationship modeling Romeo and Juliet’s, so one knows that they will follow a similar rebellion pattern of Romeo and Juliet (Theatre). Lastly, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off shows the classic tale of rebelling from school work and is overall one of the most relatable stories for one’s inner child.
