The government does not just give our money to the “less fortunate” the government also gives it to useless fundings such as “art”. Last time I checked, the hungry and homeless are more important than a picture or a poem. Neal describes this problem in the chapter “Shining A Lightght On Arts Funding” (Pg. 77). Neal put many situations in this chapter of how the government used our tax payer 's money to pay for useless art. The government in the 1960 's gave seven hundred fifty dollars to a one word poem named “Lighght” (Pg. 78). The poem was not even spelled right and didn 't benefit any who really needed that money. The man who wrote “Lighght” was Aram Saroyan. He even won an award for the one word poem which he didn 't even fund (Pg.79). It was a worthless way to blow that much money. That seven hundred fifty dollars could have went to feed the hungry, help the homeless get off the street, or go to a public school that can not afford books. If you think that 's bad, wait. The government even funded morally wrong art that consisted of pornographic plays to art consisting of aborted babies remains. The funds of this art all ranged from twenty thousand to two hundred four thousand three hundred ninety dollars (Pgs. 82-84). So much money from hard working people blown on nothing. That money could have been used to save countless lives. This chapter really digs into the grime and mindless acts of the government. All your hard earned money is not going to those in need. It 's going to the lazy people of America and to the useless “art” fundings. I loved this chapter but I feel Neal could have put what else the government does with our tax payer money. I 'm sure the government gives our money more than to lazy people and art fundings. To critique this chapter he should have listed what good things the government does with our money
