Isaac Newton figured out gravity by sitting under a tree, watching apples fall. He was doing nothing. Was he bored? Maybe. But accomplished something. He was thinking, but at the same time he was relaxed. That is one of the benefits of being bored. Boredom is good for us because our brains need to take a break from activity. Sometimes when people are at work or school, they might say they are tired. Maybe it’s because their brains are tired from maybe reading or writing. Our brains can be overworked with all of the activity that is going on around you. They need time to just stop, think and recharge. When we are monotonous, introspection takes place. This helps sort out our bad feelings from our good ones. Boredom can also lead to new thoughts
