Some Like It Hot

America in the 1959 was about partying, live music, illegal alcohol and the mob. In the movie Some Like it Hot all of those elements were expose. Starting with the first scene when the Chicago cops are chasing the Italian mob for having illegal alcohol and still got away. The next scene Joe and Jerry were in a live band playing at a funeral party. That was Chicago at its best, having illegal alcohol at the underground parties that were owned by people like Al Pacino and the mob. Another scene was towards the end when the Italians charters all got together in Florida to talk about the finance situation and mention that they did not pay any taxes. That was also the American life back the, the mob was known for not paying taxes and getting away with it. (Side note: the Florida resort is actually called Coronado and it is located in San Diego California). …show more content…
I believe people did not have use much of the common sense when creating comedy films. It was made to make people laugh even though some scenes did not make sense. Like the last scene at the end when the mob members are chasing Joe and Jerry in high heels through the hotel and cannot catch them. In reality that would not happened, but it was comedy and people wanted to laugh. During some scenes, it reminded me of the three stooges especially, when there was a chase involve. I believe comedy changes with time. What was found funny at one point of time might not be seen as funny during different times. Comedy had to adapt with the new era and continue to evolve in order to be successful. I also thing that different class of society prefers different genres of comedy. For instance upper class society might enjoy the late night satire comedy shows and the lower class society might enjoy a comedy movie instead of a

Without the Marx Brothers inspiration, the likes of Mel Brooks or any other anarchic comedic force may have not come to fruition. If one thing is for sure, the pressing need for progressive and boundary pushing comedy would have lacked a vital ingredient. In the pantheon of classic American comedy there is Chaplin, Keaton, and Lloyd. Whereas those three opened the door for film comedy, it would be fair to say the Marx Brothers broke the door from its hinges and Mel Brooks demolished the doorframe. The thirteen Marx Brothers films serve as a testament to the masters at work, and the eleven Mel Brooks films serve as another vessel for their particular brand of off the wall comedy.…

Analytical Comparison of The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare and The Parent Trap by Nancy Meyers How has comic concerns and comic techniques developed and changed over time? As society innovates, the humor associated with that society innovates as well. This exploration illustrates the extent on which narratives, comic techniques, characters, and thematic concerns have changed with the passage of time by comparing The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare (pre-20th century) and The Parent Trap directed by Nancy Meyers (post 20th century). In both examples, the entire plotline of the play is based on an extremely improbable and absurd set of circumstances heightening the opportunity for humor and detaching any conception of realism…

Our generational works of art, those monuments—many of them share this sensibility. It’s a kind of enough-already detachment, an exhaustion, an opting for comedy over morals, lessons, rules. And look how they stand up! How much newer and better those movies and books can seem than works made five or three years ago. Everyone can make their own list.…

In my opinion, Asian American comedies are not as prevalent as Asian American dramas because the subject matters of comedy were very limited for them. When Asian Americans first performed comedy in front of the public, they had to find the subject that entertains everyone including the mainstream white Americans as well as Asian American population. Thus, they chose to make fun of their ethnicity and their life experiences as an Asian American, which were in relation with the stereotypical expectation on Asian Americans. Not until long ago, many American people saw the Asian Americans as just an Asian, not the American. Therefore, when Asian American comedians’ performance was off from the stereotyped images, people thought it is “wacky”, and…

Comedies often provide laughter and entertainment while presenting social, political, philosophical, and theological ideas and problems. Within the comedy genre, satire presents itself in a form of sarcasm, irony and humor. It is the combination of entertainment and critique to criticize the ignorance of a person or society. It has a few elements: entertainment and critical reflection to awaken the audience and to address issues and questions. It does not seek to do harm, but it seeks the truth and its purpose is to create a reform (a change or improvement).…

Comedy is a genre, or distinct category, of the diverse world of film. However, comedy itself is not a single entity; it is composed of multiple subgenres that all contribute to one goal: to make the audience laugh. Multiple subgenres exist in film comedy, and an important one to discuss is the subgenre of farce—specifically sex farce. As defined by Michael Tueth’s film analysis in his book Reeling with laughter, the sex farce subgenre is characterized by absurd and overly exaggerated scenarios; a plot that has high amounts of risk; plot twists; quick pacing with the resolution; witty humor; stereotypical character types; role-reversals, such as gender-swapping; and the reliance of misunderstandings, secrets, and disguises (94). A classic example…

To explain further, the film is considered a comedy and a drama but many do not consider it a comedy. This is due to David Russell’s specific choices when filming. He chose insignificant times to portray the comedic side of the film to make it ironically funny. For example, in the scene in which Pat and Tiffany first meet the camera specifically zooms in on small attributes of Jennifer’s character. This tactic is the same as that used in the scene with the police officer at the door but it took a funnier turn.…

In today’s world, humor is portrayed through many different outlets of society. Whether it be on the radio, in person during stand up, or on television, comedy is an easy way to lighten the mood and make easy conversation out of controversial topics. In Humor as a Technique of Social Influence the author states, “Humor may indeed be used to influence others, and suggest that humor may be a powerful agent of change in everyday life” (O’Quin and Aronoff, 355). Comedy in television is a crucial role in the everyday community when it comes to not only discussing debatable topics, but diffusing them as well. Television uses humor through many different ways including jokes, skits, and embarrassing occasions.…

Satire Take it or Leave it As an art form, satire has existed since Antiquity. Several Greek playwrights wrote works mocking the conventions of their time.
