Fluid Before Exercise Essay

Improved Essays
The athlete must be hydrated before exercise, so they can store fluids because during their workout they will lose fluids through sweat, so they need to replenish their body with a healthy drink like water. If the athlete isn’t hydrated before the exercise, they are at risk of fatigue, headaches, loss of concentration and cramps, which will hinder their performance.
The amount of time you wait after you eat will depend on what sport and what you are consuming. For example, the larger the meal, the longer you should wait before exercise. This is because, if you eat a big meal and do an intense workout straight away, you are at risk of being sick, indigestion and having cramps. Food is digested from the enzymes in the blood, so if you are exercising straight after eating, the blood will go to the muscles being used during the exercise

There are 3 body types, Ectomorph, Endomorph and Mesomorph.
Endomorph – Large body frame, High percentage of body fat, narrow shoulders (pear shape body) and wide hips. An example of needing an endomorph body type in sport is sumo wrestling.
Mesomorph – Muscular physique, hardly any body fat, broad shoulders, narrow hips and strong leg and arms. An example of needing a mesomorph body type in sport is being a weightlifter.
Ectomorph – Very thin and lean, narrow hips, chest and shoulders, low muscle mass and body fat. An example of needing an ectomorph body shape is being a marathon runner.
Different sports and activities require a different combination of somatotypes in specific sports / positions. For example, being a prop in rugby, they need to have mesomorph and endomorph body type because they need to be quite muscular, broad shoulders, wide hips, strong legs and arms to be able to push the opposing team in the scrum.

    1. Although the role of genes plays a factor in athletic performance, the process of translating it to the actual playing field is a lot more difficult and important. For this reason, I do believe that sports are fair. In Farrey’s argument, he points out studies that showed that genes appear to deserve credit for about two-thirds of vertical leaping ability and that balance and flexibility are at least somewhat inherited.…

Anaerobic and aerobic exercise were determined to effectively influence muscle oxygen uptake at the cellular level. Evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of the two types of exercise on oxygen uptake would inform the advantages and disadvantages they have on muscles. Significant amounts of oxygen are consumed by the human muscles when moderate intensity aerobic work is performed. Contradictorily, anaerobic exercise causes the body to break down stored glycogen in muscles for energy. Therefore, oxygen availability, biological factors, and exercise intensity are factors contributing to muscle oxygen uptake.…

Introduction Some people believe that we have only one type of muscle in our bodies that help us with all different types of tasks, however; not only do our bodies have different muscle types, they also contain different muscle fibers that are used for different activities. Skeletal muscle contain three types of muscle fibers: slow twitch, fast twitch oxidative, and fast twitch glycolytic. Most muscles in our bodies have different combinations of these muscle fibers, although our body recruits different muscle fibers for different activities. The first muscle fiber to be recruited are slow twitch fibers, are also known as Type I. “Slow twitch muscle fibers are the smallest in diameter, contain the least amount of actin and myosin, and allow…

Alpha-actinin-3 is a protein that is encoded by the “athletic gene”, ACTN3, in humans. ACTN3 is located at the long arm of chromosome 11 and encodes for the expression of alpha-actinin-3 protein in fast glycolytic muscle fibers. Fast glycolytic fibers, or type IIb, are responsible for the generation of rapid forceful contractions. There are some individuals who do not have a working version of this gene, which causes the muscle protein to not be created. These individuals are said to have the ACTN3 mutation and do not respond well to speed or strength activities.…

The independent variable will be the drink being tested, and the dependent variable will be the electrolyte and sugar content of that drink. Electrolytes are positively or negatively charged ions that are essential for survival. Positively charged electrolytes move towards a cathode, while negatively charged electrolytes move towards an anode. There are many kinds of electrolytes that can be found in the body.…

Water gives the body essential nutrients and properly hydrates it. While exercising, the body loses a large amount of water that needs to be replaced(source B). Replacing lossed fluid in the body with water is a better idea than a sport drink because water is what is already in the body. Water is also more quickly lossed while exercising than normal activity. It helps regulate the body temperture, transport oxygen and nutrients, and dispose of waste(source B).…

    Disparity In Sports Essay

There is an inherent disparity in ability among athletes of any sport. Some people may jump higher, sprint faster, or may be more coordinated than others. This disparity makes the best performers appear better and the worst appear to not be trying. Though, it would be ill-conceived to blame the worst in a particular discipline for performing poorly only upon the merits of their ability, as there are certain things determined by our genetics that training and hard work could never change or fix. For a similar reason that even our best sprinters will never catch a cheetah, our genetics are a limiting factor in our ability to do well in any discipline, including long distance running.…

Sheila’s Life With Body Dysmorphic Disorder In today’s society, it’s commonplace to compare oneself to models that appear in magazines or to look at oneself in the mirror and wish to be prettier or sexier.
