There was a rumor about a plot to derail the soma yajna of Gautama. There was also apprehension that the offering in the yajna may not please Indra.

Gautama courted a great deal of pain for the success of this yajna. I also prayed Indra to fulfil Gautama's wishes. What about my wishes? I even didn't know what they were. I didn't worry about it, but for Gautama. I thought that our conjugal life would be wonderful if the soma yajna was successful. I would become normal and normalcy would return to the land of five oceans.
The moment for the great enthronement arrived. The soma vines became lively thanks to the water-filled container. This huge pot was near the altar along with the brush made from sheep hair. Drops of pure, beautiful

His face became stern. Brother Narada came to the rescue and said, “Without the compassion of Indra it is hard to secrete soma. He makes the soma flourish by donating water and then he drinks the soma himself. Now let the sixteen-year old Gautami read the scripture entitled “The sixteen-year-old girl”. Let the chief priest Ahalya extract the soma juice for the third time. I have a feeling that by this third extraction the pot will overflow with soma. It could be his …show more content…

My chest was palpitating in fear of the imminent danger. I wanted to defeat Indra to bring back the hard-earned fruits of Gautama's labor. Again, my arrogance was invoking me, “Ahalya! Your failure to please Indra is not only your defeat. It is the defeat of the creation, defeat of the earth.” The resolution to smash the arrogance of Indra, emerged in my mind. Before the germination, the embryo was already created and developed.
Brother Narada said, “You have to wait until the auspicious moment. Tomorrow in the early morning there is a possibility of being successful. Indra is the boon-giver, but no one can do anything before its time.”
Saying this brother Narada also disappeared. When Indra was ready to leave, my arrogant husband begged him, “Hello Lord! Today's night will be the night of destruction without your boon. If you return without promising to provide rain there will be a revolt by the non-Aryans. They are peaceful until now with the anticipation of rain. They will destroy the ashram. Please notice the imminent violence in their

“It would be nice if she could let this genius know about this one little flaw in this perfect plan for taking care of women in their old age” (Esquivel 11) This quote is an example of how traditions do not always benefit the majority. Traditions can bring the family together, and create a sense of communion with the family. Each tradition has a role within the family, whether to create a sense of togetherness, or if to imprison the other family members. To me this book is all about courage, it starts with Hassan and the way he would stand up for Amir when they were kids like, when Hassan pointed the slingshot at Assef and his friends when they were threatening Amir. Then when Amir has grown up he goes back and Hassan's son who has lost his parents due to the Taliban shoots Assef in the eye when he was hurting Amir. The third moment of great courage in the book is when Amir stands up for Sohrab when General Taheri calls Sohrab a Hazara boy. When Hassan and Amir were friends they were close, Amir would read Hassan stories, and even though Hassan was Amir's servant they still hung out all of the time, they would fly kites together and go to movies.…
