Som Finally: A Role Model In A Person's Life

Ask a million people who their hero is and one should expect to get a million different answers. The word has come to encompass as many definitions as there are possible configurations to a deck of cards. Some think of a hero as someone with powers beyond ordinary people. Others think of them as people who embody exceptional character. Still, many more consider heroes as people who help the world reach ideals in government, medicine, chemistry, technology, and a thousand other fields. However, as diverse as these answers will get, one thing will stay the same: a hero is a guiding light, a role model in a person’s life. They are the ones who guide you when you are unsure of yourself. They provide the standard for how you want to live your life. When you are down, they help you get back up. Even though his actions can’t be categorized as heroic or legendary, he helped me transition into my new school, therefore helping me feel accepted in my second and third grade. When I first came to Creekside Elementary, like so many other people, I was lost. It didn’t take too long to get used to the new terrain or classes, though. What was hardest was finding a new group of friends to fit into. My first couple of recesses were spent aimlessly wandering around, doing nothing. I was both bored and lonely. However, one day when we were released outside, someone I’d never talked to showed up and asked if I wanted to go play wall-ball with him. I agreed. It took a while to learn, yet soon I was proficient at the game. A while later, I had become a notable competitor. With that came other gifts as well. I was accepted into a group of friends. My recesses were no longer spent wandering around; rather, I would dash to the wall ball courts as soon as we were dismissed. One simple sentence created two of the best years I had in
