There is little attention given to the problem as some other approaches focus on. The problem is not addressed as the elephant in the room. Solution-focused supervision is based on a collaborative relationship that embraces strengths and successes. It empowers the supervisee in an inclining means. The first component is a positive opening followed by a problem description. The supervisor focuses on the supervisees needs. Those needs set the direction of the session. The supervisor also ask how he or she can be helpful in to the supervisee. The problems and needs are discussed, including background information. Through specific questions, the supervisor is able to modify the focus to a specific issue and respond accordingly. Secondly Hsu expounding on identifying the positive supervision goals. The problem is at this point clarified with inspiration of hope interjected through scale and relationship questions that make the supervisory goals more focused, feasible and solid. Within the clarification, the supervisor helps the supervisee examine clients reasons for attending a session and their hopes for the future. This also helps supervisees consider consequences, challenges and the notation of needing alternative approaches to identify goals and meaning. This component allows the supervisee to sharpen their professional development skills and counselors roles by mentioning any concerns of dealing with unusual issues. The supervisor explores reasons that assist supervisee in evaluating himself or herself as an effective counselor. Thirdly, the supervisee evaluates things from the client’s perspective to determine the exceptional interventions that they (supervisee and client) embrace.
