A song written by the group Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, titled “Ohio,” tells the story of Kent State and embodied the feeling of many of the American Youth. The song has lyrics such as, “Gotta get down to it/Soldiers are cutting us down” and “We’re finally on our own.” The war had finally seemed to reach the home front.
All of these events, and others, worked together to build resistance against the Vietnam War in the public’s eye.
The Soldiers and What They had to Endure: There is no single Vietnam experience among veterans of the war. I will try to give a small glimpse of what life could’ve been for you in Vietnam as a grunt. Remember, that is a person who is in the infantry. These people were generally in the thick of things and took the brunt of casualties. It is important to understand that there were many other military positions in Vietnam besides being a grunt.

The movie tells the story of the Battle of Ia Drang Valley. The military higher-ups in the US army stated that the battle was a success. I would be willing to say that if you were to ask someone who was actually on the ground fighting the battle, they would not come to the same conclusion. The battle lines were not clearly drawn during the battle. Where friend and foe was located was often blurred.
