It is crazy here there is always stuff happening. We don’t really get very much sleep at all. We wake up to booming of explosions. I thought that going to war would be fun killing people but it is really scary here. The trenches are really muddy and smell really bad. I have gotten really bad trench feet from the trenches getting flooded with water from the rain. The trenches that we live in are super narrow so there isn’t much space for all the soldiers to live in day and night. We are always digging more and more

As the months passed, the war and all that it brought with it, affected the citizens of France in varying ways, bringing prejudice, suffering and violence along with it. Nancy and Henri helped out wherever they could, helping their friends, their neighbours and even strangers the best that they were able to. Passively resisting and then overtly assisting in confounding and frustrating the Nazi and Vichy authorities at every opportunity. After all, they had been invaded, their Country was no longer theirs alone and they felt the same anger and feelings of helplessness as the rest of France.…

This problem is one that has many names, and has been there since the very first war. Author Jan Karon summarized it best when she said, “In World War One they called it shell shock. Second time around, they called it battle fatigue. After ‘Nam, it was post traumatic stress disorder.” We know that soldiers enter another war when they come home, but do we ever consider the possibility that they were fighting more than one war out there?…

All Quiet on the Western Front Test Part One 1. This quote is significant because since they are so young and are fighting in a war, it kills their youth. If they had been older, it would have been easier for them to get accustomed to the war, but since they are so young it is the only thing they know. This is also significant because it shows that they realize that their youth is far behind them since they have seen all the death.…

The way one views his or her setting can affect actions and thought processes greatly; for example, if the present situation seems hopeless, one’s decision-making abilities will be skewed, as he or she would believe there is nothing that could possibly be done to salvage the current state of affairs. The topic of discouragement and desperation influencing one’s outlook, as well as how it can or cannot affect the course of action, is explored heavily in Erich Maria Remarque’s All Quiet On The Western Front through the central character, Paul Baümer, and how his outward view of his state during his time on the western front in World War I affected the course of his story. There are parts of his story in which Paul is hopeful for the future, and sees an end to his current bad situation, but there are also parts in which all he sees in his future is seemingly inexorable suffering and then death. The decisions and choices he makes during these time periods of optimistic, hopeful sanguinity and ultimate despair and despondency alter the course of his story; however, the idea of fate would interfere with this idea. the concept of fate dictates that this trajectory, although not exactly linear, is predetermined.…
