I would like to begin by saying that Astronomy is one of the most interesting science that I have studied so far. I find fascinating to understand the universe around us and can observe it. Until now, I think that my knowledge on the subjetc wew scarce, but I believe that it have increased considerably due to this subject. Astronomy is the only field of magic study that has an equivalent in the Muggle world. It not only helps the understanding of the constellations and planets, is the source where students do their magic powers stronger.

This year, we have studied our Solar System and its planets. Next, we will list the planets of our Solar System and examples of its facts:

Mercury: its period is only 59 days, exactly two thirds part of its orbital period. Its a rocky

Earth: it is the third planet from the sun and the only where you can find live. It has tectonic plates which float independently on top of the mantle. It is covered of 71% water.
Mars: it is the four planet from the sun and was named bu the ancient Romans for the God of War, because its surface is red. It has to small moons in orbit arount, Phobos and Deimos.
Jupiter: is the fifth planet from the Sun and was named after the Roman god who is the king of gods, thunder and the sky. It has colored bands running around the planet, which represent high powered winds. In addition, it has 67 moons.
Saturn: it is the sixth planet from the Sun. Its atmosphere is compose by helium and hydrogen dominating, similar to Jupiter's. It has rings with their own atmosphere.
Uranus: the seventh planet from the Sun, an ice giant, was named after the greek god of the sky. It has a strange orientation rotation axis, which produces some extreme seasonal effects. It has got 27

It discovered eleven new moons (Cordelia, Ophelia, Bianca, Cressida, Desdemona, Juliet, Portia, Rosalind, Belinda, Perdita, and Puck). It also was able to study the planet’s atmosphere which is unique due to the axil tilt of 97.8 degrees and studied Uranus’s ring system. Due to the axil tilt Uranus’s poles point directly at or away from the sun which causes the half away for the sun to have long dark winters. It also changes the magnetic fields of the planet which are usually in line with the rotation of the planet. The ring system of Uranus has 2 sets of rings.…

Mercury orbits the sun extremely fast but rotates slow. Mercury’s year or orbit around the sun is 88 Earth days and its day is 58.6 Earth days which is almost the time it takes Mercury to orbit the sun. Mercury has the most elliptical orbit of all the planets in our solar system since Pluto is now considered a dwarf planet. It’s perihelion or closest point to the sun is 46 million km and its aphelion or farthest point away from the sun is 70 million km. Mercury’s mass is 3.285 × 10^23 kg and its diameter is 4,880 km and is the second planet in the solar system next to Earth.…

The terrestrial planet that has the coldest surface is Mercury. At night, it has the coldest temperature and dips down to 100 K. However Mars has the coldest average surface temperature of anywhere between 160 and 280 K. Mercury has the coldest surface temperature because of its slow spin and short year. Because its the closest planet to the sun, it only takes 88 days to complete one revolution around the sun. Due to its slow spin and short year, it takes a long time for the sun to rise and set. Mercury has only one sunrise every 180 days.…

The four Terrestrial planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. The one that has the coldest surface is actually Mercury! This may be surprising because it is the closest planet to the sun, but Mercury's nighttime side has the coldest surface temperature. The cold temperature is due to its thin atmosphere. Its thin atmosphere causes the temperatures on Mercury to vary back and forth between burning and freezing.…

Mercury and Jupiter both fit very cohesively into solar system. For example, both planets have their own spot in the order from the sun. Mercury is the first closest to the sun and Jupiter is the fifth closest. This makes Mercury an inner planet and Jupiter an outer planet. Mercury, being the closest to the sun, is only 0.39 Astronomical Units, or 58,500,000 Kilometers.…
