Target Population:
Our initial campaign will target middle class residents living in Lagos, Nigeria. We chose Lagos as it is Nigeria’s largest city with a population of over 21 million people (Rosenthal) and is home to several existing solar companies that provide PAYG solar energy options. Additionally, the Lagos government also has shown interest in solar and implemented a project in 2014 to use solar to power public institutions (Lagos Solar Project.). Lagos residents also suffer from lack of reliable electricity. Our targets are middle class residents, defined as an average monthly income of USD 500-600, (UHY) who have some access to electricity through either the grid or fuel generators and have the ability to purchase domestic appliances,

Before viewing our infographics, 50%of respondents said that they do not use solar energy because it is too expensive (see figure 1).Regarding knowledge of PAYG, only 14% of respondents were familiar with the payment model. (see figure 2) However, after viewing our PAYG and benefits of solar energy infographic, 80% of the respondents to the second survey indicated they were “very likely” or “somewhat likely” to use solar energy for electricity (see figure 3). In the second survey, 80% of the respondents rated solar energy as “very affordable” or “affordable” after viewing the provided infographic (see figure …show more content…
We plan to run our campaign for 4 months, which would cost approximately $1,560 in Facebook advertising costs. A website domain name is about $20 a year and our infographics were created on a free platform. (Wix) To cover this cost, we will reach out to our proponents: solar energy and cell phone companies in Lagos, Nigeria. We plan to ask ten solar companies to contribute $70 each. We would pitch the remaining half of the costs to cell phone companies in the area. To cover any other costs, we would utilize green crowdfunding platforms. Because of the low cost of the campaign, we believe solar and cell phone companies can join our campaign without having to contribute significant

P110/120: Energy/Energy & Technology Fall 2015 Homework 05 1. Solar energy can be attractive not only environmentally, but also economically. If an electric clothes dryer has a power rating of 6000 W and is used for 1 hour per day, how much money can be saved in a month by using the "backyard solar clothes dryer" (see Fig. 6.37 in your text), assuming electricity costs 10 cents per kWh?…

This will play a key role in designing engines for use with ethanol which will be discussed later. Despite these advantages, Ethanol does have one key disadvantage; that it is not as energy dense as other fuels. As can be seen in the table to the left, the decrease in ethanol content results in increase in energy content. Alternative energy is an issue with implications at the local, national, and international levels.…

Rogers emphasizes that, “…Within five to seven years people can save enough money on electric bills to match the cost of a Blue Ion system.” Because the solar panels can last up to 20 years, they will save nearly double the cost compared to expanding energy from the power grid. In addition, these savvy photovoltaic cells use Sony lithium phosphate batteries allow for a reputable electrical density and demand no cool down time. Unlike most photovoltaic systems used for residential use, which use net metering, or the ability to ambidextrously alternate between the solar panel’s energy supply and the local grid, Roger’s solar array was sufficient to continuously supply and store enough power for the entire house. Solar arrays prove, in the long run, that they can not only compensate for their titanic cost, but also save thousands of…

Biello, David (2014) author of Solar Wars demonstrates a weak ethos compared to Seligsoh’s. Electric companies try to get people to pay additional fees is much of a to make them switched compared to the UN or government officials. “To make up the shortfall, APS proposed a surcharge of up to $100 per month for each solar homeowner. And to convince the public why the charge was necessary, APS, backed by utility interest groups, went on an advertising spree”(Para 2). Adding a fee to electric the homeowners do not use.…

As the “Sunshine State,” one would think it a given that Florida would pursue solar energy, as the pressure to find viable alternatives to fossil fuels is on. This is not the case though as regulations restricting third party sales of solar panels prevent them from being an option for many home owners, who don’t want to or can’t afford to pay the $15,000-$30,000 dollar price of installation up front. A ballot initiative for 2016 is proposing a constitutional amendment that would allow third-party sales, making it easier for interested citizens to invest rooftop solar panels of their…

HOW MUCH WILL A TESLA ROOF COST COMPARED TO A TRADITIONAL ROOF? Last year, Tesla revealed its new solar roof, made from durable photovoltaic, tempered glass tiles. Tesla aims to offer four tile styles, though currently only the smooth or textured glass styles are available to consumers (Hope). A Tesla Solar Roof is composed of solar and non-solar tiles, which are sold at different prices (Hope). A major selling point that has been promoted by Tesla is that the cost of Tesla Solar Roof should be comparable to the cost of a traditional asphalt roof, when factors such as electricity costs saved and tax incentives are taken into account.…

Previously Solar states were concentrated in certain states that provided large incentives, like California and New Jersey, but now Obama is trying to expand this policy nation wide, especially to states with very sunny climates. Furthermore, Obama helped facilitate joint agreements between private companies like Apple and Home Deport and federal agencies like the Treasury Department and the Department of Housing and Urban Development to increase solar project development (Eilperin 2014).The president decided to take a similar approach to his health care reform plan by allowing states to assess their own energy needs and decide how they want to implement renewable energy resources including solar (Baker 2014). Furthermore, taking into consideration all the costs of producing large scale solar powered plants with their added long-term benefits, Obama 's administration expanded solar tax credits to cover real estate and investment vehicles (Cardwell 2015). These pro-solar policies have helped the industry grow dramatically over the last couple of…

I’ve chosen solar powered cars as my topic of choice, my knowledge is limited on the subject. Solar powered cars don’t use fossil fuels, so they don’t cause pollution making them environmentally friendly, which is ideal. They get their energy from the sun, through solar panels that store energy in batteries, or battery packs. The process that this happens in, is conversion of energy through photovoltaic cells. These cells are what makeup a solar panel, made up of semiconductors usually silicon.…
