The NRC states, “Hence, the potential resource of solar energy is essentially limitless, which has led many to conclude that it is the best energy to rely on in the long run.” (pg. 240) Their point is that if solar energy is renewable and sustainable, why not use it? Although I concede that solar energy can be useful for the large business industry, I still insist that putting this energy to use in homes can have a huge impact on the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions. Recent research has shown that “To go solar have never been easier.” (Maehlum, 2015) Besides being easy, this switch in resources lessens the environmental footprint of a residential home. In fact, “The average residential solar system offsets about 100,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide in 20 years - the equivalent of driving a car 100,000 miles.” (Maehlum, 2015) If that isn 't enough, solar energy is also found to be sustainable. According to Maehlum, “The industry standard guarantees 80% performance after 25 years.” (Maehlum, 2015) Solar energy is easy, green, and long-lasting. There is no reason that solar systems can’t be installed into residential homes to begin the process of using this renewable energy to improve the environment one house at a …show more content…
291) Again, I suggest that the author addresses this resource use through a large scale perspective. Similar to solar energy, wind turbines can be installed into residential homes, lessening the environmental footprint of even more homes. Recent research suggests that wind turbines are becoming more accessible because, “With this simple and increasingly popular technology, individuals can generate their own power and cut their energy bills while helping protect the environment. Unlike utility-scale turbines, small turbines can be suitable for use on properties as small as one acre of land in most areas of the country.” (Wind Energy Foundation) Wind energy is also renewable and releases no carbon dioxide emissions, meaning if it replaces the normal energy it takes to generate power in a home, it can slowly decrease the environmental impact of more and more homes across the United States. Modern technology and wind combine to make it possible for homeowners to easily access this alternative energy source and help prevent further harm to the environment. With solar and wind energy available, the process of converting to this type of energy is attainable for anyone who is willing to use this change in their home to make a
