On the year of 1861, the month of April, and the day of the 12th. The Civil War began. The purpose of the Civil War was for the American nation to have freedom, peace, justice, and to prove that all men are created equal. This war did take a great effect on America till this day. The men that fought did not risk their lives for nothing. Freedom was brought upon America and will always be at hand. Many people and, events had an impact on the nation, they felt it was necessary to fight, and their efforts helped redefine what it means to be an American citizen. This speech was written by a woman named Sojourner Truth. Sojourner Truth believed it was a reason to fight for freedom, because she knew that mainly black women and some others did just as much as anybody else can do, and still did not receive justice, and equality just as everyone else did. She believed that if enough women got together, their rights would be received. So, she made this speech so that black women and others received just as much respect as other men and women did. “That man over there says that women need to be helped into carriages, and lifted over ditches…nobody ever helps me into carriages… And Ain’t I a Woman? I could work as much and eat as much as a man… And Ain’t I a Woman?” (paragraph 2, Truth). This explains that a men say women should be treated with royalty, but Truth states that she’s a woman and she doesn’t get treated with anything. Also, she does as much as a man does, eats a much as a man does, and still gets treated differently. Another citation is, “ If the first woman God created was strong enough to turn the world upside down all alone, these women ought to be able to turn it back, and get it right side up again” (paragraph 5, Truth). That the nation deserves just as much equality as others would. Another point that Lincoln made was, “As a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live” (paragraph 2, Lincoln). To explain, the soldier gave something that America might live under for forever. So, this victory was a big part of America today, changing what Americans are today, conceived in liberty and equality, that will be protected and secured forevermore.
