Information systems are the software and hardware systems that support data-intensive applications. Information system, an integrated set of components for collecting, storing, and processing data and for delivering information, knowledge, and digital products. Business’ and other types of organizations rely on information systems to perform and manage their operations, interact with their customers and suppliers, and contest in the marketplace. There are numerous types of information systems. Since information systems support operations, knowledge work, and management in organizations, efficient information systems that support a specific organizational function, such as marketing or production, have been displaced by cross-functional systems. Such systems can be more effective in the development and delivery of the company’s products and can be evaluated more closely with respect to the business outcomes. A few of the applications used by various corporations and businesses are MIS, DSS, TPS and ERP.
