Soledad Brother Book Reflection

“Soledad Brother,” by George Jackson at the beginning of the book it's seemed to me as if it would be another boring book. As I read through the book it seemed interesting to me, also as I was reading the book I did something I had never done with any other book, I was relating my self to the story. I had some similar events as the guy in “ Soledad Brother.” Even though we are two different races I related to someone not even the same Identity, roots, ethnicity, background as myself. I knew i could relate to anyone, but not in the way i relate to George. I have never read a book and for me to read this book and to have a deep connection to the guy in the book. In the way “Soledad Brother” has impacted me in an excellent way. It has made me evaluate what I have, fight for what I have. …show more content…
For example, One thing that I can relate to on this book was when he said "being born a slave." I can relate to this quote. I also said I am a Mexican guy leaving in the U.S. what can i do in a world full of rich people, white people? I tried to follow people's steps and be like anyone else but that path just wasn't made for me.
I could not do what other people tried to believe was the correct thing.
I am not like anyone else I have to follow my own dream and not try to make other people's dreams true. I care about me and that it when it comes to being successful in life.
I believe this way because my own family thought the right choice was to be like everyone else. I disagree with them because i have seen people being successful in their own way.
For example some people believe school is going to make them successful. That's what people have told them and they believed in them. Why? Because possibly they have more experience.
Yes but if you look at people that are really successful in life some of them didn't go to college or studied. yes this text made me realize lots of things.

I relate to Borderlands by Gloria Anzaldua and Volver Volver by Ariana Brown to the point where I found myself near tears. Never in my life have I ever heard or read anything that precisely reflected my identity. I relate to Brown's pride when being able to communicate with someone outside of family in Spanish, I feel so proud of my family for teaching me my language. I also, unfortunately, fear that my Spanish will never be authentic enough because of my American accent. I speak the standard English and Spanish Anzaldua refers to.…

Imagine being a college student and you spend most of your summers working on a factory floor. Now think about the real-life lessons you would learn from the factory floor. The early mornings, the long hours for low pay, the people that work there for most of their lives, and the possibility of the job itself not existing due to overseas relocation. Now all these are life lessons that are slowly teaching you to appreciate being a college student.…

When one is separated from those they are supposed to be closest with, they will often look to fill that emotional gap with some form of self expression of comfort. As in Cisneros’ personal essay “Ghosts and Voices: Writing from Obsession”, the distance I lived from my family, both literally and metaphorically, helped to shape myself and my voice. Since both my parents originally hailed from Montreal, the majority of my family remains there to this day. While I am quite close with everyone, there has always been a gap between our existences. Furthermore, being the only openly LGBTQ+ member of my family served to form a greater divide between myself and my inherently Irish Christian loved ones.…

It is not often that a white male can consider himself a minority. However, throughout my life, the way I view the world has absolutely been rare. I was born in a small, rural county in southern Pennsylvania and have lived there since. The county fair and the fall festival are the only “exciting” things that occur every year. We do not even have the stereotypical small-town Friday Night Lights to look forward to as none of the three schools in the area can field a high school football team.…

A lot of people debate over whether college is beneficial or not. Well in a honest sense the answer to that is what do you want out of life? A highly placed job, lowly placed job? Everyone has heard about how you need to go to college to obtain a successful career. In today’s society, this is a true statement because of how we are advancing. Since our knowledge and understanding of things around us is constantly changing, we are continuously adjusting how we go about our daily lives and our jobs so we need to change the way we prepare to tackle these changes. Three writings that give different perspectives on the issue of the necessity of college are Should Everyone Go to College? by Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill, Measuring ‘Greatness’ of Grads: The Gallup-Purdue Index, funded in part by a $2 million grant, will be the largest national study of college graduates, measuring their material and work successes and well-being by Ronald Roach, and The Magical Elements of College Linked to Long-Term Success in Work and Life by Brandon Busteed.
