A few years back, some gay friends of mine and I were out at a bar having a good time. As the night progressed, we moved to some fun on the dance floor. Immediately a very hostile man approached my gay friend. He told him, “Get off the dance floor you sodomite!” Although this was a very aggravating experience and we ended up leaving the bar, not even then did I know the true meaning of a “sodomite”. I only had a vague understanding that it was penetration of the asshole, for lack of better words. However, I learned recently that perhaps the man’s interpretation of “sodomite” is what drove him to use the term in such a detestable way.
