Introduction
Where We Chose
Environmental sustainability is something that should be practiced in every establishment. The importance of being conservative with our resources will continue to grow as we proceed to expend them at our current rate. Pollution can be combatted and it is our responsibility as humans to make our world a healthier place to live and grow. How we take care of being green now will play a large role in the future health of citizens across the world. For our research project, we were stuck between choosing two very highly used places in Terre Haute. We eventually decided to go with a restaurant. As a group, we chose to focus on Sodexo in the towers.

If there are people living there, the chances of there being a restroom located nearby is very high. They are used very frequently because it is human nature. Unfortunately, if they are not managed properly, they could be a substantial waste of resources. There are three major components to conserving bathroom waste: water, soap, and paper towels (MS Author, 2007). Focusing on being environmentally healthy with these three resources alone offers many ways to reduce waste. As for paper, having rolls of paper towel that do not have a core get more paper out of each roll and eliminates the bulky cardboard insert (MS Author, 2007). Something that many places have done, including Sodexo, is to have a hand dryer in the bathrooms so that paper towels are not required in order to dry hands after washing them. The second part of restroom waste reduction is to save as much water as possible. This can be done by having the most up to date urinals that do not require water or urinals and toilets that flush automatically when the sensor is triggered (MS Author, 2007). This is especially important because some restrooms only have manual toilets that can get stuck or have faulty seals that can leak. The third component of a healthy restroom is soap (MS Author, 2007). The new fad with soap is its transformation to foam (MS Author, 2007). According to Maintenance Supplies (2007), “…some reports show upward of 40 …show more content…
First, I never knew that usage of restroom items could be so valuable. I never thought about using toilet paper without an insert in the middle. That has really stood out to me. Also I really would like to invest in foam for my bathroom soap and a hand dryer rather than using cloth or paper as a substitute. Secondly, I have never really looked into the sustainability of Sodexo on campus. Before this class, I never looked into it because I never had to think about it. My eyes have been opened up though. I widened my network by interviewing representatives for Sodexo and becoming familiar with them on campus. They taught me about the goals of Sodexo along with what is going well with achieving those goals and how they can improve on them in the future. I have always wondered what they did with all the wasted food from the dining hall and it satisfies me that the extra is donated to

Taking your boat on the water during the summer gives you a carefree outlet for relaxation and enjoying the great outdoors, but, over time, the bottom of every boat begins to accumulate algae as it sits in the water. This accumulation mars the aesthetic appeal of your boat and can lead to other issues. Understanding how to clean a boat properly is must for any boat owner and it should not be avoided until the problem is so severe that nothing short of a jackhammer will penetrate the grime. Boat bottom cleaning and boat hull cleaning often seem daunting, but if they are done on a regular basis, perhaps once or twice a season, depending on the frequency in which the boat is in the water, you can avoid the worst of the unsightly gunk for the…
