“We're all we’ve got left. We ought to be able to stick together against everything. If we don’t have each other, we don’t have anything.”-Sodapop Curtis

The characters in the book are always there for each other no matter what. Like family. The Outsiders is a book that takes place in the 1960s. It is about boys with low income families, from ages 12 to 20, and how they struggle with society. It includes all of their encounters, troubles, and misunderstandings. The main character's name is Ponyboy and he has two older brothers whose names are Darry(the oldest one) and Sodapop( the middle child). The brothers are always there for each other and it’s shown by Darry and Sodapop coming to the hospital, standing up for Ponyboy in the rumble, and Ponyboy and Darry chasing after Sodapop to fix a misunderstanding. First of all, let's talk about how family always cares for you. When Darry and Sodapop come to the hospital, they really show how they care. “I leaped up and ran for the door, but it was already open and Soda had me in a bear hug and was swinging me around” Ponyboy says on page 97. It is the interaction between him and one of his brother’s after being away for a while. This

And I have to say, Sodapop and Darry did a pretty good job of that in the rumble(a fight). In chapter 9, during the rumble, Darry was looking out for Ponyboy and when a SOCS(popular kids) had pinned Ponyboy down and was punching him in the face, Darry lifted the guy up by the shoulders and flung him 3 feet with a swift punch. Also on page 157, Darry recalled seeing Ponyboy getting kicked in the head at the rumble. Afterward Sodapop jumped on the guy who kicked Ponyboy and Darry said that he had never seen Sodapop so mad. Sodapop and Darry are pretty good about standing up for their little brother. No one can mess with this family because they sure know how to protect each other and how to tell people to back

It is stated in the novel that, “Darry and I would probably still have misunderstandings – we were too different not to – but no more fights. We couldn 't do anything to hurt Soda” (149). This common will to put aside their quarrels in order to maintain the wellbeing of their sibling, and to keep him from hurt, is what really shows just how much good the greasers have in their hearts. Without question, Darry and Pony take action and settle their disputes as an effort to not harm Soda in any way, which alone shows the level of maturity that the greasers can display. Correspondingly, even after Pony ran away from home, that did not stop Soda and Darry from worrying about Pony’s safety while he was away from home, as displayed in the story when it says, “‘I 'm sure.…

I do not think when they say how good their parents were they mean that they were the best parents ever who give them everything they wanted but parents who were the best ever because they had the boys’ best interests at heart, interpersonal relationships, and tried their best to raise them well. I think they wanted to and needed to join the gang because once their parents died they lost an outlet, “My mother was golden and beautiful… ”(Hinton dig. 43). When Ponyboy writes this he means his mom was like him, he understands Johnny’s description of “Golden” and he thinks his mom was golden like him. This leads me to believe the boys could have gone to their mom to talk because she was probably a good listener like Pony is.…

Ponyboy feels that his brothers are being too hard on him but the evidence here shows that Soda does love Ponyboy even though he doesn’t always approve of Ponyboy’s choices. Soda Pop respects his younger brother and admires that fact that Pony is smart. Soda Pop is good looking and fun but he sees in Ponyboy something special that he knows he does not have. I think that Soda and Darry, especially, show their love for Ponyboy by pushing him to make good decisions that they know will benefit him in the long run. Ponyboy doesn’t understand this and feels that his brothers boss him around because he isn’t able to put himself in their shoes and realize that they only want what is best for him.…

It is possible for two young boys from the same world to be so different but similar at the same time. Both of the boys are greasers but not all greasers are the same which makes them similar in some ways but very different in other ways. A way that Johnny and Dally are similar is how they both have parents who don't care about them, another way that Johnny and Dally are similar is how they both give little value to their lives. A way Johnny and Dally are different is how Dally is tough and hard and Johnny is kind. Another way Johnny and Dally are different is how Daly likes fights and rumbles and Johnny does not like that because he believes nothing good comes out of fights.…
