The characters in the book are always there for each other no matter what. Like family. The Outsiders is a book that takes place in the 1960s. It is about boys with low income families, from ages 12 to 20, and how they struggle with society. It includes all of their encounters, troubles, and misunderstandings. The main character's name is Ponyboy and he has two older brothers whose names are Darry(the oldest one) and Sodapop( the middle child). The brothers are always there for each other and it’s shown by Darry and Sodapop coming to the hospital, standing up for Ponyboy in the rumble, and Ponyboy and Darry chasing after Sodapop to fix a misunderstanding. And I have to say, Sodapop and Darry did a pretty good job of that in the rumble(a fight). In chapter 9, during the rumble, Darry was looking out for Ponyboy and when a SOCS(popular kids) had pinned Ponyboy down and was punching him in the face, Darry lifted the guy up by the shoulders and flung him 3 feet with a swift punch. Also on page 157, Darry recalled seeing Ponyboy getting kicked in the head at the rumble. Afterward Sodapop jumped on the guy who kicked Ponyboy and Darry said that he had never seen Sodapop so mad. Sodapop and Darry are pretty good about standing up for their little brother. No one can mess with this family because they sure know how to protect each other and how to tell people to back
