First, the Greasers and the Socs deal with parental issues. One example, Bob’s friend Randy said, “He kept trying to make his parents say no and they never did.” (Hinton, 116) This shows that Bob’s parents don’t understand what it means to be a parent. This also shows that his parents don’t have any control over him. Another example that the Greasers suffer from parental issues is that Johnny gets beat up by his dad when he's drunk, and his mother yells at him. This proves that his parents don’t care about him.
