Starting off with sociology, initially I assumed it was how we socialized with each other and different ways to be social. I was partially right, sociology is a type of scientific view of the world. It involves testing thing, hypothesis, and gathering data. I also learned that sociology and psychology are vastly different. While psychology is learning about an individual, sociology focuses on the group. I found it interesting that sociologist finds patterns in behaviors of particular people, then they take this common ground and understand how it binds people together as a whole. First off I learned deviance is defined as socially disapproved of behavior or a violation of a norm. Next are the four basic types of deviances, social diversions, social deviations, conflict crimes and consensus crimes. I did not realize deviance could be broken up into a multitude categories. It truly made me contemplate, when you had a list of deviant items on a slide and asked if they were equal. Various ideas were killing someone for a fee, killing someone who breaks into your house, and killing an inmate on death row. The purpose behind the killing changed through each option. This made me realize that it is not just the act itself it is the context surrounding the act or how one defines the act.
