People view sociology in many different ways. Every one of them having their own theory on what it is and how it is connected to the world. Karl Marx, Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, Harriet Martineau, and W.E.B Du Bois, all had their own theory that led to one thing. The one thing being sociology. Sociology is the study of social behavior in human groups focusing on relationships, influences, attitudes, behaviors, and how societies develop and change. Sociology explains the important matters in personal lives and the world like causes and consequences in romantic love life, racial and gender identity, family conflict, religious faith, poverty and wealth, discrimination, social movements, etc. Sociology enlightens the way we see and understand the social world in which we live and which shapes our lives. Sociology is one of the social sciences that studies human society. This focus distingues the social science from natural sciences. Sociologists have many interests, specializing in many areas, such as the sociology of religion, family, race and ethnicity, work, and social movements. Sociology is important because it looks at society and helps us understand how institutions can help categorize individuals providing a good insight of why we have different cultures, and theories. Enlightenment thinkers believed that the open debate of ideas would promote tolerance, individual rights, equality, and democracy.
