1.0 Introduction
Symbolic interactionism is a theoretical perspective that contributes a large portion towards current identity theories. Interactionism is based on the idea of meaning produced through social interactions. As a result, it views identity as a continuous “process” rather than a “static entity”. On the other hand, identity is referred to the internalization of social perceptions about specific statuses. The specific status that will be explored is of obesity; the “fat” identity.
