Hello Briana, I really enjoyed reading you post, especially because it helped understand more clearly how mechanical and organic solidarity works. You gave good example for both, thank you. Going back to Durkheim’s argument about social facts had an existence of their own, I agree with you. We as individuals adapted to the culture we are used to right now, and can easily gain social facts from other cultures by socialization. It can either be another cultures behaviors, in the way of thinking of even feeling. I also wrote that Durkheim would consider the unemployment rate as a social fact, just because many people are greatly affected by it, causing them stress, sometimes even depression. The larger the unemployment rates, the larger the chance

Biological, Sociological, and Psychological Theories It is not secret that people are out committing crimes every day in the streets of our communities. Over the years there have been many theories developed in order to help understand why it is that people decide to take part in some of these criminal acts, while some people stand together and claim that this is a result of poor parenting and others arguing that it is due to the environment that the child is around. Regardless of one’s point of view, it is very clear that crimes are occurring and that biological, sociological, and psychological theories have been developed in an attempt to help understand why it is that some individuals take part in these crimes. There are many things that…

Another sociological factor that taught me to value what I have and work harder to be successful is my ethnicity. I consider myself to be Mexican even though I was born in the United States because my parents were born in Mexico and I have been brought up with that culture. Ethnicity is a term that describes shared culture—the practices, values, and beliefs of a group (Keirns, et al., 2015). With that being said since I am Mexican I am part of a minority group. A minority is basically a group who lacks power in a society compared to the dominant group (Keirns, et al., 2015).…

With every new class, I became more conscious of the different sociological issues that were pressing in our society. I gained more empathy and sympathy for those who are less fortunate economically as well as those who have faced devastating trepidations. And now that I have become aware of these problems I feel that I cannot sit back and not do anything on problems that if solved could help benefit our society.…

Durkheim was a positivist scientist and he argue that sociology rely on empirical evidences. Durkheim, argue that the laws of society are no different from laws of nature, and the method in which the society should be studied, is the same with the method of the natural sciences. As the nature has laws which are given to us, society has social objective structures which are external to and constraining upon the individual. These structures are the collective standards, the norms and the rules of behavior within the society. Durkheim called these rules as ‘social facts’.…

I believe that the sociological theory might be able to explain why Filho was involved in criminal acts. The sociological theory states that the social environment is the cause of criminal behaviour. This is because there are broken bonds between the individual and society’s institutions. It is evident that Filho was raised in a very toxic environment, his family did very little to adhere to the social values and norms of the society they lived in. Filho was not devoted to his education, was unable to maintain a healthy relationship with his family, and did not have a strong relationship with religion.…

The purpose of this article is to elucidate the sociological insights that can be learned from analysing the relationship between political, economic and cultural phenomenon within football institutions at both a global and local level. Giulianotti and Robertson(2004) assert that football is vitally important to our understanding of globalisation because roughly one billion people have an interest in the sport and it allows these groups to interact. Soccer acts like a microcosm of the concept of globalisation, providing a useful example for theorisation and empirical study of this process. The concept of 'glocalisation' introduced by Robertson (2012) refers to both the adaption of global political, economic of cultural phenomenon to suit local…
