Sociologists refer to “social structure” as the design of social corporations and the internal relationships between institutions and the elements of society. It is related to the concepts of personal and professional economic, social arrangements of society as an origin of crime and delinquency. It is these relationships within a community that furnish the decrease in the socioeconomic status of recognizable groups as the significant causes of crime. Those theories are established to investigate the relationships between the institutions and society’s social structure while interacting with individuals and groups. Reading Task Chapter 2: Sociological Research Methods The second chapter of The Real World by Ferris and Stein distinguishes between the different research methods sociologists use and outline their advantages and disadvantages. Although the methods are also outlined in great detail, I feel that the thought of the benefits but especially downsides of the methods is of crucial importance in that chapter. Even though people tend to feel reduced and dehumanized by being labeled as ‘data points’ the study of societies is in many ways similar…

This paper examines four current sociological phenomena and their resulting theories, offering possible explanations for the increasing problem of minority abuse by law enforcement. Although there are many other factors I have chosen to focus on racism (ACLU, 2015), militarization of the police force, (Jenkins, 2014) the hiring of veterans by law enforcement agencies (Jenkins, 2014) and a sociological phenomenon known as “the other” (Franzoi, 2012). Two of these seem to play a larger part in the problem as the other two forces are not recent developments and therefore less likely to be causative of a more recent issue.…

Within the vast multitude of social structural theories, two stand out among all the others. Shaw and Mckay’s Social Disorganization Theory serves as a unique theory that attempts to gauge the cause of the seemingly rampant crime occurring in society. Henceforth, those individuals who are unfortunate to have to grow in an environment that is teeming with crime and composed of those with low socioeconomic status, they are likely to follow the common trend.…
