Sociology Course Reflection

Coming into this course, I really didn 't know what to expect. Sociology is something that I’ve always known about, but never really paid much attention to. As many people other people think, I saw sociology and psychology as the same thing. I didn 't take the time to read or understand what the difference was and even if there really was a difference. I quickly learned that there was. Sociology is “the scientific study of society and human behavior” (Henslin, 2011). The weekly reading taught me something new each and every time. I’ve never been a big fan of reading textbooks, but I found the book for this course to be very interesting. The topics and reading that were assigned were things people could relate to and topics that are constantly being talked about in society. With each of the weekly readings came a weekly paper. The papers weren 't too bad to write. I can actually say that I enjoyed writing a few of them because the topic was something that would interest me on any given day. There were three topics that stood out to me: race/ethnicity, deviance and norm, and social class. When I first saw the syllabus, I instantly knew paper four would interest me the most which was on race and ethnicity in America. Each week presented a new topic that opened my eyes to many things. The readings were hard to keep up with at times, but I got through it and it benefited me tremendously. At times I would find myself uninterested at was being said in the readings, but after a while something would catch my attention and get me interested again. I know that this class will be very beneficial to me in everyday since the things I learned about are topics that are brought up everyday. I will apply each and every theory and definition to help myself and others around me. Sociology opened my eyes to a lot of things around me and I will forever be grateful for
