When we fail to comply with certain standards, which are put in place by society we are often shunned from those who choose to comply with these values. After observing different social settings as well as the expected behavior in those settings I choose to focus my attention on ordering etiquette in fast food restaurants. In each of the fast food restaurants I observed in both the Hub and along downtown East College Avenue I noticed three elements of expected behavior. On September 11, 2011, a new memorial, honoring those who perished in the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon ten years prior, officially opened to the public. One feature that makes this memorial so unique is that the structures erected to remember those victims are actually located in the foundation that the Twin Towers originally stood. Since then, the memorial, located in downtown Manhattan, has hosted thousands of guests, all who have come to witness and visit the space that has animated 21st century American history, politics, and identity. For our Anthropological observation project, we observed SDT, an on-campus sorority at Binghamton University. These letters represent the Greek letters Sigma Delta Tau. SDT relates to the mainstream culture by bringing those with similar interests together. The culture and customs of current college students are represented by all of Greek life. I feel that class and social divisions do impact on the everyday opportunities of those around me. Financially it is obvious to see especially when you see pictures on social media of your people you know on holiday in exotic countries, indeed it is common to hear of someone every year who is off to Dubai or the Caribbean, an opportunity which would not be available to those in more working class neighbourhoods such as where my secondary school was located. In the ex-mining village in north Nottinghamshire of Rainworth it was very rare to see an individual who was not white. Method Participants and Settings Only one participant was chosen for this study, a 23-year-old Hispanic male name Joe. Joe took interest in this study, after reading a flyer posted at his local gym. The flyer asked for any young, active, male, who is seriously seeking help to quit smoking. Participant cannot live with anyone else that smokes, and must complete the study to receive compensation. The movie American History X although depicting both sociological and psychological perspectives of life, dramatically portrays the impact that hate can have on individuals, families and even the society as a whole. It is imperative to note that, although the elements of racism seem to take a center part in the movie with the way they are passed down through generations, the movie undeniably proves that individuals should not fall prey to their surroundings. Importantly, the movie shows how individuals should not be prey to their immediate environment, more so by catering to the fancies and desires of the social beings around them.
