Part 2: Sociological Analysis Using Sociological Theory We define sociological perspective as, “theories in sociology are propositions that explain the social world and help to make predictions about future events,” (Chapter 1.3 slide #3). When analyzing gender inequality in the sports industry we can through through the lens of the Feminist Theory. Similarly to Conflict Theory, Feminist Theory stands for making a change or reform. This theory focuses on the male dominance and female subordination of a patriarchal society and its establishment through power and social convention (Chapter 1.3, slide #11). Feminist Theory is the perfect tool to analyzing this topic because it stands for patterns of gender inequality to be changed in order to benefit society as a whole. This theory exemplifies the racial tensions and the social change Kaepernick is trying to make through his protesting. Conflict theory is the perspective that conflict is the groundwork of society and the cause for social change. Racism and discrimination against all races needs to be put to an end. Colin Kaepernick used his position in the sports industry to raise awareness to millions of people in the world and this is what needs to be done by many to abolish discrimination once and for all. However, I believe that this social activism against discrimination and racism in the sports industry could also be views through a the Critical Theory perspective.
