In July 1971 we see a white store owner who runs a small convenient store has just killed a black teenager. We see the black community has surrounded the store in a riot demanding justice. When news of this riot reaches the ears of the Titans football team practicing nearby, they quickly abandon their practice and rush to aid the white store owner, despite the coach’s efforts to halt the young men. Before the team reaches the riot their coach pulls in front of them with his truck and tells the team to hop in. When they return to the high school you can see that the team is still very upset with the riot and can hear the captain of the team say, “I don’t want to play with any of those black animals.” This was only the introduction to the one hundred and thirteen-minute
