1- Summary Obesity is a disorder which defines as extra amount of body fat. Nowadays, obesity is one of the serious health problems in U.S. About 78 million people live with obesity in the United States and more than 68.8% of adults considered to be overweight. Obesity has association with some diseases, including 2 type diabetes, cancer, heart disease, stroke, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea and depression. Finally, obesity increase inpatient and outpatient spending as well as increasing corresponding services. In fact, having lower socioeconomic status is associated with higher obesity rate. The socioeconomic status traditionally includes Education, occupation and income. However, some researchers have used broad variables in their studies such as Income, gender, education, physical activities, nutrition habits, occupation, race, region etc. According to empirical evidence, education is the most fundamental indicator of obesity in general. To explain, for both genders having high level of education decreases the obesity rate. In the the hand among less educated people the obesity rate is higher for women than men. It is necessary to add that several studies have found complex and variant impacts of income, education and occupation on obesity. While many researchers attempt to demonstrate the impact of socioeconomic factors on obesity, there are few literatures to compare regional disparities. This conceptual framework will very useful to address the following specific aims and null hypothesis.
1. Examine whether difference obesity level between the lowest and highest states (Colorado and Arkansas) can be explained using socioeconomic factors. Or how much of difference can be explained by socioeconomic factors and how much will be unexplained.
Socioeconomic factors cannot explain the difference in obesity between Arkansas and Colorado and other unknown variables account for difference.
2. Determine the factors have more impact on obesity level difference in Colorado and Arkansas.
All socioeconomic factors have equal impact on obesity difference in Arkansas and Colorado.
3. Determine the factor or factors account for difference in obesity level in two states.
