Understanding Terrorism
Terrorism is one of the most violent acts of aggression that can be displayed in today’s culture, it is a problem that occurs around the world and is not limited to certain cultures or countries. In the article “Understanding Terrorism”, Tori DeAngelis examines factors that motivate people to commit terrorist acts, the role that culture plays in terrorism, as well as ideas on how to decrease terrorism in today’s world.

Like many behaviors, aggression is often learned socially from our environment whether it is learned from adult role models, television or religious figures. Researchers from the first article reviewed stated that individuals involved in terrorism are often antisocial and angry at the situation they find themselves in, much like that of students from the third article that committed atrocious acts of school violence on their peers. Both articles noted sociocultural factors played a large role in these acts of aggression. If aggressive tendencies are learned social behaviors, as empirically proved in the second article, terrorism and school violence could be thwarted by restructuring the atmosphere in which we raise our children.
