Which society functions better? Which society is ‘better’? – Think, how do you define better? Discuss considering the values each society represents.
Society and class is the main issue in both Divergent and the Hunger Games and plays a huge role in structuring the story, theme and conflicts. These two dystopic societies have very different structures and classes. The Hunger Games characters are separated by location, but the people in Divergent are separated by traits, values and beliefs. “You can see why someone like Madge, who has never been at risk of needing a tessera, can set him off. The chance of her name being drawn is very slim compare to those of us who live in the Seam. Not impossible, but slim.” (p16)
This a reason for why their society functions properly as not everyone’s equal and depending what they have, what they do and where they live people will be treated
